Aftercare Instructions

Congratulations on your new tattoo! Proper aftercare ensures your tattoo heals beautifully, retains its color, and avoids complications like infection or scarring. Follow these steps carefully.

Initial Care (First 3–5 Hours)

Remove your bandage after 3–5 hours.
Wash your tattoo gently with Dial soap, warm water, and your fingertips.
Rinse with cold water and pat dry with a clean paper towel.

Optional: Apply a clean icepack (use a T-shirt or cloth barrier) for 10–15 minutes to reduce swelling, redness, and help close pores.

You may also take ibuprofen as directed to minimize swelling.

Applying Ointment

Apply a thin layer of Aquaphor or Hustle Butter ointment.
Your tattoo will begin to flake and peel like a sunburn in 3–5 days and finish peeling in 5–7 days.

Daily Tattoo Care

Wash your tattoo 3 times daily: morning, noon, and night, using Dial soap.
Keep your tattoo moist but not saturated: rub a small amount of Aquaphor ointment 3–5 times daily if it feels dry. Less is more here.
Always wash your hands before touching your tattoo.
Ensure clothing touching your tattoo is loose and clean. Avoid shoes, socks, pantyhose, elastic bands, waistbands, bra straps, shirt collars, or jewelry from rubbing against your tattoo.
Avoid submerging your tattoo in water: no baths, hot tubs, pools, lakes, or saunas. Quick showers are fine.
Never re-bandage your tattoo.
Do not pick or scratch your tattoo.
Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight and tanning beds for at least 3 weeks. After that, use SPF 50+ sunblock to prevent fading.
Once your tattoo has finished peeling, continue to use a fragrance-free or all-natural lotion, such as Palmer’s Cocoa Butter or Lubriderm.
Your tattoo may feel dry or itchy for 1–2 weeks; regular lotion will help.
Once your tattoo feels smooth and normal, you can discontinue aftercare.
